Crash test dummy maker Humanetics buys Austrian manufacturer
Humanetics Innovative Solutions Inc., a crash test dummy maker based in suburban Detroit, has acquired an Austrian safety test equipment manufacturer.
The purchase of DSD Testing GmbH brings Humanetics more tools and facilities targeted for driver-assistance systems and autonomous cars, according to a Monday news release. Financial terms were not disclosed.
DSD’s current COO, Markus Schmidl, will lead the company with its current team in Austria, the release said. It makes various robots, including some that can be run over by cars for testing and others that can steer and pedal. It also makes testing software.
Humanetics is a 65-year-old company with 650 employees in 20 facilities internationally. Its clients are in the automotive industry, aviation, energy, medicine, military and civil infrastructure, according to the release.
